Limits of a 9001

Roger,

I have a 40 gal mixed reef that is currently running an Aqua C Remora S for skimming. It is in a bedroom so I am not completely happy with the noise level. I have a 9001 that I occasionally employ on a quarantine tank and I am happy with how quiet it is. I know the published capacity for the 9001 is 37 gallons and I'm sure I am below this threshold once rock displacement and water level is factored in. In your opinion, would the 9001 be adequate and what intake configuration would you recommend?

It really depends on inhabitants. The published rating is for a FOWLR and deduct 20% for softies, 40% for LPS/mixed reef, 60% for SPS. The 9001 DC is marginally stronger, rated to 42. If a 9004 will fit, that would be the safest bet and in general on small tanks a weaker skimmer can just be supplemented by more water changes.

I have a 9001 on my 29 gallon with 4 small fish and it works great. 40 gallons might be pushing it

Just out of curiosity, which intake configuration on the 9001 do you utilize?
