Thanks everyone. I spent most of the day cleaning the house and continuing to prep the nursery, but did clean the glass a bit and thought a picture (with all the lights this time!) was in order...

Hopefully the canopy will be complete within the next few days...in the mean time I will make an effort to organize the fish room and maybe put up some shelving in there.

More updates to come!

Thanks everyone. Here are a few new additions to the display, thanks to my friends at Hydra Aquatics: 3 yellow tangs and 1 Blue hippo. The yellows are pale in color as they were getting an adequate (and appreciated) QT with copper and profilactic meds. So far I only saw a couple of inconsequential nips from the resident yellow tang, but it didn't seem as though he was too upset. Fingers crossed!

Don't know if your interested but a lfs up here in west palm reef lovers has a giant heniochus bannerfish that there looking to to re-home. He is probably 7-8 inches and is in there 220 display. They haven't been able to find a home big enough for him due to his size. I could talk to them if your interested.

Great tank Danny!

Did you epoxy or putty any of the liverock when you put it in or is it all balanced?

Also, do you have a fish wish-list? With such a big system you can have so many species in there!

Thanks Vikinglord13!

The rocks are currently just fit together like a massive puzzle, and balanced very solidly, but there are a couple of spots that placing some epoxy might be prudent long term.

I definitely have some fish I would like, some being common and others being a bit more "exotic" if you will:

Numerous anthias
Numerous wrasses
Powder blue and powder brown tang
Blonde naso tang
Yellow belly blue hippo tang
Magnificent foxface
Flame angel
Possibly other Angels, but I haven't decided to risk the corals...would love an emperor, regal, queen, blue face, and gold flake...but we'll see
Clown tang
Sohal tang (I know I know, haha)
Purple tang
Achilles tang
Scopas tang
Fire fish (red and purple)
Mandarin

I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch...but I also want to pack the tank with corals of all kinds, in particular SPS.

I have a few recent additions, and will add pics shortly!

Props on the balance achievement!

That looks like it's a promising list!

For the angels, you could consider looking into the Genicanthus genus for the Angels. From what I've read they're generally considered reef safe for the large group. My personal favorites are the Lamarck and the Bellus.

I'm definitely going to check those out. I've seen the Bellus and it's definitely awesome. Here's the latest addition: a "show" sized Red Sea Sailfin tang.

He's got a bunch of personality and mugs for the camera every time!

Definitely look at the Genicanthus angels.
I am going with pairs of the Bellus, Semifasciatus (Swallowtail), Lamark (Watanabe).
Beautiful, peaceful and reef safe.

Absolutely going to check those out. I would love to throw in the Angels as a nice contrast to the heavier tang lineup.

Multiple male Genicanthus Angels, will often cause the smaller/ less dominate males to revert back to female colors...

+1 for the swallowtail, I completely forgot about that one.

Personally what I like about angels is the males and females often have different, and distinct, color patterns. It adds to the variety of the tank if one has the space for a male/female pair.

Nice build.

Re the issue of top-off from RODI vs reservoir addressed above, consider the SpectraPure UHE unit. When it is done filling your reservoir (e.g., a 50 gallon bin), it will automatically switch things around to draw water back from the reservoir to flush the membranes, and then when the unit shuts down it will leave the membranes soaking in the RODI'ed water.

The unit is controlled by two float switches. One low, for when reservoir runs low and needs to be refilled; one high, to turn off the unit when the reservoir is filled.

I have installed the unit and have been using it for a few months to supply water as needed for a 12 or 14 g desktop tank (e.g., manual topoff, water changes), and I have been very impressed and pleased with the unit. I am in the process of setting up a 250, which this will supply. When the tank arrives and I get to that point, I will add two extra float switches to the reservoir, to control operation of the unit. The additional low switch will sit below the low switch per the original UHE installation; if water drops that low and triggers the switch, Apex will send signal that something is wrong. The additional high switch will set above the high switch per the original UHE installation; if water rises above that switch, Apex will kill power to the UHE unit and send an alert.

(Topoff will be handled by Genesis Systems auto topoff and water change unit, which comes with float switches to control. Apex water detector on floor by sump will send alert if water overflows sump and will kill power to the Genesis system.)

FWIW, and HTH. Now back to work for me!
