Goldflake, Flagfin, Hybrid??
I special ordered a fish that was labeled as a goldflake/flagfin hybrid. And 5 weeks later special ordered a juvenile goldflake. I wanted to try and pair these two. My local fish store ordered them from Quality Marine, which is a reputable whole seller. And my LFS is one of the good guys and not just out for a buck. I saw the packing list that both were labeled as stated.
I am now not sure what these fish really are as they have changed in appearance. The hybrid, or larger one, had a small black spot on dorsal fin which is now gone but in the right light I can see a faded black on the tip of the dorsal. The GF, or smaller one, has lost most of the black fins and is just barley visible. I can see a blue edge on both of their anal fins, but only in the right light. Are they both hybrids, both flagfin, or what? Can I please get help with a proper id? Thanks! The hybrid when I first got it, still in the bag at the store at around 5": Both fish in QT, when the goldflake came in, GF around 2 1/2 to 3" Seven weeks later when out of Qt and in a tank by themselves to hopefully form a pair. As of today in the DT: Goldflake in DT @ around 3 to 3 1/2": Hybrid in DT at 5 1/2 to 6":
