Oh gimme a break.. These tanks arent any big deal!! I had to remove all of my mature vividly colored corals because they outgrew the tank. It was INSANE!! I replaced them with little dull colored frags because I felt sorry for my fish having little room to swim. Unfortunatley my dog ate all my pictures before I switched to little frags..
But take my word for it, it was REALLY impressive!! Chris |

Amazing how close the corals are together without problems, and here i am freaking out cause i only have ~4"-5" of space between my SPS's. I guess i will quit worrying about it and let nature take its corse and frag when i have too. Problem is too too many nice corals out there and not enough room for them nor enough money for them.

invincible569 how many of these tanks have you seen 1st hand?
What would be your best guess on on bulb K on some of these tanks. Reason i ask i am installing a 3rd 250mh on my 120 and trying to decide on my bulbs. I plan to try 14k, 10k, 14k second option is 10k, 20k, 10k, or 14k, 20k, 14k. I know its subjective, but i like the coloration of a lot of the tanks you have posted, not just these in this thread.

Hi invincible,
this tank isn't the one of Blureff (Donatello), this is Alexalbe's one (Alessandro Rossi). This is his new tank, he has 4 Diamond LA3 400W on this 200x60x60 cm tank. Bye Quote:

Here's the RC thread with tons of pics:
http://reefcentral.com/forums/printt...99&perpage=156 Quote 1 "The tank in the pictures above is run by a famous italian aquarist in Rome, Maurizio Manili. The astonishing growht and color of the corals is mainly due to the method he has elaborated in the last 8 years. Some staghorn acropora branches are 1 inch wide The tank is a modified-Berlin, intensive skimming, plenty of live rocks, bare bottom (a must!), higly illuminated (mainly by 400W Radiums, but with some integration), with high water circulation. Water parameters are: Ca 500, Mg 1500, KH 14-16, pH 8.2-8.4, nutrients below detection limits (PO4 always below 0.01 ppm). The high growth rate is due to the careful use of food, amminoacid solutions, and a particular hormone. Color is obtained tru high light intensity, food, and use of some trace elements (I, F) The tank has very frequent sexual spawning of corals and clams (also corals not older than a few months) and the application of his method led to frequent spawnings also in other tanks." Quote 2" "we are talking about Growth Hormone (GH)- somatropin. Maurizio Manili, just recently made public to the Italian reef community his almost 10-years experience in experimental use of this hormone. In fact after the initial skepticism by some Italian reefers, many have now started to experiment his conduction method. Some had already started several months ago and are claming exceptional results. However, the important points in his conduction method are several, not only the GH. The baseline is the well known Berlin method, (much light, live rocks, bare tank bottom, oversized skimmer, etc.). In particular the water parameters must be absolutely kept around the values mentioned by italianreef! We are all very happy that Maurizio has decided to share his experience with all the international reefkeeping community." |

Hi Edward,
i don't have pics of Blureff's tank, i'll ask him for some pic to post. Many italian reefer's use intense light, most use HQI 400W and others like me use 250W. Before you were talking about the tank of a very good friend of mine, Aster. He uses 2x400W and 3x250W plus 4 Pl 24W blue on his tank 220x75x70cm.... he uses a "simple" classic system with tons of food, he owns an awesome tank. Danilo Ronchi is another friend, till 3 mounts ago he was using 2x250W PFO like reflector, now he uses an ATI 8x54W T5 on a 120x50x50cm tank, also he uses only a "simple" system. Bye Quote:

Also, others have been asking about water flow. I have a good friend who lives close to me (fishcraze) who wants to understand if they are concerned about flow with such a packed aquarium. Is the Italian secret to quick coral growth intense light and high water parameters? |

I think there is no Italian secret, i think every SPS reefer is looking in a very important manner to water parameters and of course intense light help. Intensive light means also high quantity of calcum and other elements that are requested from the corals to grow, in the same way we have to feed.... Water flow, we all use an intensive water flow, in Aster's tank you can see 4 Tunze (2x7400 and 2x6100), iin Danilo's tank if i remember correct there are 2 Tunze 6000, the others i dont' rembember. Bye

Thanks Gilberto. This is the information my friend was looking for (flow). I will pass this on to him. Im glad to see the Italians show such a great success. Are there any new methods that the Italians are trying now? I know ZEOvit was big then.. but any new fads today? |
