yeah, dont do it, imo a 3 gallon will be almost impossible to maintain, contradicting my last comment there is a nano forum here, is a 3 gallon the largest tank you can accomodate?
oh and To Reef Central

HELLO, I was just playing around. Sorry, I thought you would take it as a joke. I can accommodate a bigger one i wanted on on my night stand. Also a 3 gallon is more affordable right now.

If you are an obsessive person who really gets into a hobby you should be fine. Just be ready to devote alot of time each day to a nano. Cause thats what it takes. I was told the same thing, to not do it and like you I went ahead anyway. Now I have a 2 1/2 gallon nano, a 55 gallon reef, and a 125 gallon reef. But in my defense I am obsessed with reefing and its all I do pretty much anymore. If I were you I would look into doing a coral only nano for your first tank. They are so much easier to start with. I have helped a set up a few coral only nanos and they are still very healthy.

i still say don't do it. its not worth dealing with evap. i have a 135g,75g and 3g. and it always seems like i'm always cleaning the hob filter and salt creep gets stupid on the 3g. unless you find a way to get a lid and sump setup under the desk.
