I run a 215 with 2 X 3/4" returns combined with 2 X 1" drains

Used to run a 100G with a single 3/4" return

Thanks just wondering if I should add a synergy overflow. I bought the single overflow due to 4ft tank not having a lot of room. If I need to add it I want to do it prior to getting it wet

One overflow is enough

Two is too much, its just adding possible points of failure.

I ran a add on overflow, and I slept better when I drilled my tank and built a small internal overflow that was fail proof.

What do you mean by 'reduced flow of a 1"' return? Assuming an adequate pump, a 1" return will move more than enough water for a 150 gal tank.

I agree a 1" return should be enough for a 150gallon.

Let's say, for example, you wanted 5x turnover through the sump. A 1" pipe can definitely handle 750 gph for the return.

That is what I was thinking when I bought the tank but I see a lot of references to 10x tank volume for flow

I don't believe 10x is needed through the sump. 3-5 x is commonly recommended on here.

Much more than that for total flow, counting powerheads /wavemakers
