Frag tank drain pitch to sump

Hi guys

Taking advantage of some space I’ll have in my soon-to-be basement fishroom to future proof a frag tank. Dimensions are perfect for a 30 breeder, but I’ll probably end up doing a chop-too 40b after a $/g sale. Then I’ll do an internal ctc overflow with the leftover glass, drilling for 2x 1.25” pvc. One drain, one emergency.

The frag tank will sit 9 feet away from the sump (a 125 I drilled 2 holes in for a synergy shadow overflow 2 days before we got told to relocate by wife’s company). As such, I plan to use one of these holes -located in upper middle of a long edge- to drain the frag tank into.

If I go with a 0.5”/ft pitch on the drain, I’ll need the holes in the frag tank to be 4.5” above the hole in the sump. That puts the frag tank top at 52 inches- since the 125 will be on a 29 inch stand - which I can’t change at this point. Stand is made and 2 of the tanks that comprise my sump are in (29g overflow/wc tank and the 125).

Is 0.5”/ft ok? I was aiming at 0.75”/ft but that puts the frag tank too high. Can I go lower, like 0.25?

Thanks

Not sure I see why any downward pitch wouldn't be acceptable..no matter how small with the information given..
As long as the input is higher than the output a siphon will form and the water will drain...

I have to agree with the above statement.

Yeah- don’t think anyone’s going to accuse me of that...
