Talking Mr and Mrs Reef - 290g in wall build

Short history - 2008-10 we had a 72g bow front mixed reef as our first tank. We spent a lot of time on RC researching and learning the do's and don'ts. Times got tough, we sold off the tank. We knew we would be back someday, and here we are. Things have turned around, and we are ready to build our dream tank!

Last week we purchased a (used) acrylic hex flat back 290 gallon DT. We have lots of work to do before the tank is getting installed. It will be delivered in the next couple of weeks, the acrylic is scratched, so we will be 'buffing' the scratches out. If you have experience in this, any advice is appreciated.

Here's our equipment/plans:
Lights - 3 EcoTech Radio xr30w Pro G3 (LED)
Controller (lights) - EcoTech Reeflink
Powerheads - 2 MP60's
Skimmer - ETSS 1400 (downdraft)
Skimmer fed by - Iwaki 70
UV Sterilizer - 120 Watt
Calcium Reactor - Pinpoint PH controller
Return Pump - Iwaki 100 (2800 gph)
Sump - 125g with 75g fuge (Need to build, have the tank purchased)
Fuge lights - Generic Ebay LED lights (to be purchased)
RO/DI Unit - Kent Marine 60 gallons per day (plus booster pump)
300 lbs of LR to start (picking up Oct 30)
300 lbs of LS (ordering this week)
Fish and corals to come after cycling!

We will be doing a lot of plumbing and also building to get this bad boy into the wall. We have a sump room to build, tank stand to build (welding), and lots of other fun things. Hopefully you join us on the adventure!

Thanks!! We are excited. We are anxiously awaiting the delivery of the tank. We are heading over to the LFS today, because, why not!

We have the plumbing and sump design on paper, we'll work on getting it on the comp to get input from everyone.

Sometimes some of the posts get lost in the shuffle. Try doing a new thread and get their attention again.

Thank you!! We are excited to share this together, we've missed it since the day the last tank left.

Jeremy got us another 300 lbs of LR today. We now have 600 lbs that we'll have. I am in Minneapolis and Columbus, Oh for work this week. I'm not enjoying the fact that he's having part of the 'fun stuff' buying all of the supplies. I know he's loving it though! Pictures when I get back off the road at the end of the week.

"Christmas" well it's fun but when I was a younger Santa brought the gifts to me! I didn't have to break down other people's tank hall it all to my truck, then bring it in, and set it up in quarantine tanks. Who's kidding I love driving home with the heat in my truck cranked up and the swell of an old sand bed aquarium in the back seat!!!

What are people's thoughts on wood frame tank stands? We are doing a full build in and will never see it on display side.

I build all my stands out of wood. Don't have to worry about rust and you can make them as strong as you want too.

Well hope to get started on the stand this weekend. What im thinking is 8 foot long 2x6 stringers 9 inch on center with 3/4 green treat top. legs made of two 2x4 screwed together to make 4x4 with ledge. I can only do one center support about 16 inch from back due to 125 gallon sump under. I also didn't want to go taller then 2x6 because the sump is 22 tall and to have room to get in it my display tank is already going to be 40 inches off the ground. Any thoughts! thanks everyone.

Sounds good, just make sure you have part of your top frame resting on top of a 2x4 as well as being screwed into the side of one

We got the mother load of all mother loads today. Estimated 300 lbs of live rock... We have yet to weigh it. I say it's more. We will see tomorrow. Pics to come tomorrow as well!

We're drying it out though, it's ridden with every kind of algae possible.

Picking up another 300 lbs next weekend.
Lights and Apex controller will be in Friday next week.
Tank is getting delievered Nov 7.
Now... Need to build the sump room and stand.

Did we tell you guys Jeremy bought a way overstocked established 20 gallon? Too many fish, and every inch covered in corals. So our current DT will be our future QT.

So, our live rock last night weighed in at 424 lbs. plus the 40 lbs that Jeremy bought that's covered in corals in the established 20g. We are at 464 lbs. Wowsers. We are picking up 300 lbs next weekend. We will have so many options for aquascaping with plenty to spare.
