very nice use of the toilet flange. Its, dare I say, elegant? haha, the kalk doser is on the edge of being to nice for this thread though.

In cast you hadn't noticed, this thread was to post your own ghetto rigs, not point to other people's handiwork and call it ghetto. I'm done with this and won't be back into the argument. |

N00bieTanker. Your avatar..... i'm mesmerized!
As far as ridicule over ghetto rigs goes. If your posting in here its a LOT like tossing rocks while living in a glass house. So if the urge to flame someone's rig strikes you, stuff it.

Can we just drop the whole arguing thing? The point of this thread is to show our ghetto rigs and stuff. I don't have any yet, but I might soon, who knows. Anyways, if it's posted here it's just assumed to be "ghetto" and the more DIY it is the more awesome it is!

while I donot have a pic of it, a past member of our club had a sump made out of an Igloo cooler. I swear he was the McGuyver of the reefing world!

I have that pic on my desktop so YEA GET OVER IT. I'm so sick of all of the hypersensitive people around. Why are you so concerned by it. BTW it is "ghetto" to have a huge water bottle on top of your skimmer as a skimmer cup (and im sure that the person that built them knows it. I happen to love that picture and think that it shows that you can be inventive with the things that you have around and dont have to spend a million bucks on things that you can make yourself. There is also no mention in the title of this thread saying that you have to have built the thing that you post. Its simply called ghetto rig.

All of these creations are awesome and serve their own special purpose. Ghetto just means it was created with creative use of materials. I don't think it is ever meant as an insult in this thread.

Lol,
No worries guys, I know they were all ugly and they were built to test designs before building the final one in acrylic. I put them all up to show the failed and successful attempts at messing with stuff over the years on a shoe-string college budget. I learned a lot and enjoyed the skimmers, In the other thread Hahnmeister made some inappropriate comments that IMO had nothing to do with skimmers and were just plain insulting, I addressed this with him, so no problem and keep posting. Ghetto does generally have a negative connotation but I love making stuff from household items. Why dump $200 into an acrylic collection cup when an old water bottle does just fine, Everyone keep up the "ghetto" err innovative and resourceful reefkeeping. |

oh and watch using kalk in any polycarbonate water bottle, it will crack the bottle and you will have a mess, learned the hard way.

B/C of width, I could not fit anything other than a 10 gal tank under my DT for a sump. Used an old water jug for the refugium. Works like a charm.
