To those who've had or have had disease/parasites
Hello. This is something very controversial amongst all creeds of reefer.
If you have or have had ich, or any other parasite or disease on any life form in your tank this thread is for you. Anyone else may read along, but the opinions I seek come straight from those who have had or have any parasite or disease in their tank. Please answer the following! 1)did you quarantine your fish? 2)did you quarantine your corals? 3)did you quarantine your inverts? 4)did you quarantine your rocks? 5)did you quarantine your sand? 4&5 can be answered yes if you cycled your tank with no fish whatsoever for a minimum of 8 weeks. Thank you |

For tanks in which the answer would be yes to all those, I haven't had any disease issues

I can answer yes to all of them, but lost all my fish in four days after borrowing a fish trap. I know it sounds unlikely, but that was the only thing different I did in years. The tank was on cruise control for well over a year before that without any additions or problems.

1)did you quarantine your fish? Yes
2)did you quarantine your corals? No 3)did you quarantine your inverts? No 4)did you quarantine your rocks? Yes 5)did you quarantine your sand? Yes Added a piece of coral in late June that turned out to be harboring crypt. Fish didn't start showing signs until mid-July, but I couldn't believe it was crypt. Finally pulled all fish in early August; lost two of them likely due to the added stress of capture (in addition to their being infected). Now about halfway through my fallow period with my remaining 5 fish in HTs. From here on out, I will be quarantining EVERYTHING that goes into my tank. Going to be setting up a coral quarantine/frag tank soon.

Yes, yes, yes, yes ... and yes.
I haven't had ich in the two years since this became my policy. Prior to that, ich was a serious issue. |
