I use Coralife salt mix, I think it's better and cheaper than Instant Ocean, only $39.99 for 200 gallons. Review on Amazon or Google for more confident.

Does the 200 gal salt come in one single bag or 4 separate bags of mix for 50 gal each? I have a 50 gal salt mix drum. I often just empty one of the 50 gal bag into one of these container orb RO water and stir it up with a paddle. Once all dissolved then I turn on the mix pump to keep worsted and circulate. I hate having to measure amount of salt each time

Most of the salt mix brands only measure the gravity around 1.021 so one bag is less than 50 gallons if you mix at 1.026 gravities

I leave enough salt water at the end of each change of water (from experience) so that the total amount of new salt water is never 50 gal so my salinity is spot on at 35 ppt each time.

As mundane as this sounds, I have found petco cheaper at times than other places and free shipping so that is a bonus. I used reef crystals.

I found instant Ocean to be low on mag. I measure only at 1160.
I now use Vibrant Sea fro a Seachem, which mixes up on point at 1.026
Mg, 1360, cal, 420, Alk 9, using 17 months now.

I've used IO for decades. Amazon Prime (includes shipping) price is $50 for 200 gallons which our LFS will match. Any idea how much shipping is at thatpetplace?

Coralife on Amazon (not prime) is $55 with shipping for 150 gallons. Larger sizes are bizarrely expensive.

ThatPetPlace charge a huge shipping fee even if they have coupon for free shipping over 75.00. I think they charge it as over size/weight item (or not applied due to transshipped from manufactory.
Ebay and Amazon does not really have cheap salt right now.
All the other online vendors also does not have good price on salt right now.

I got a 30% off coupon on regular priced item from Drsfostersmith for today only, and use this to get 4 boxes of Kent salt. Thanks everybody.

BTW this coupon does not seem to work for liveaquaria.com, only drsfostersmith.com. I though they are one and the same but maybe not, or maybe just minor computer problem on their part. I am sure if I call and place the order it would work.

I would talk to some LFS and see what they can do for you. I called around and found a place a hour from me that sold a entire skid (40 boxes) to me and a buddy. Can’t remember if I paid $25 or $30 per box but it was no more than that. I did that 2 years ago and I still have some salt left

I did similar thing before. The think I don’t like about this with IO salt is that the bags they use for The 200 gal box is not too good. Most of them is not completely air tight. Store them in the garage after a few months they harden up and then become bad salt and not dissolved completely.
If Kent salt have good bags I may think of doing something like this again. I am restart my large DT system so will use plenty of salt

I bought a bucket of Omega reef salt a couple of weeks ago from my lfs for like $25. Says it makes 180 gallons. I don't have any corals right now, and I probably won't for at least a few months, so I'm not measuring Mag, or calcium, or any of that.

I'm wondering how bad this salt can really be though. At half the price of the other brands I'll stick with it unless I have to do a ton of dosing.

LFS may be your best bet. I buy 500 pounds at a time, and it saves a few hundred dollars.
