Zoa help?
I’ve had these zoas for awhile and I’m seeing very minimal growth from all my frags/ colonies in this tank. This colony is the only one of my three types of zoas that is infact loosing heads. My amonia/nitrate/nitrites are 0, and I know these guys like “dirtier” water but would that cause heads to be lost? Lighting is Kessil a160 tuna blue that max out at around 50% and coral is in the lower half of the tank. Please help!

My local fish store told me they appear to be stretching as in reaching for more light but like I said I have zoas lower and further that aren’t loosing heads like this guy. Does it look like that to you guys?

Look for zoa eating nudibranch. I had them in my tank. I used flatworm exit to kill them off.

I’ve been looking but I haven’t seen anything. The rock they’re on does have a ton of feather dusters, a clam, and many sponges.

I would think that 0 Nitrates and Nitrites would be a little too clean for those guys. You should thing about direct feeding them twice a week if you are planning on keeping those readings.

Been keeping zoas for a long time.
I also have a SPS tank. My zoas do very well and are growing like weeds. I would check for a predator first. I’m also going to concur about the light. Zoas can get too much light, but yours seem to be stretching for light. Also, water movement. Strong water movement keeps the colony very healthy. You might have to increase your flow. My thought is, they look like they are stretching for light. I know some can have long stalks naturally, but they seem to tend to be bigger polyped ones, not like this. So not only are they stretching to get more light to photosynthesize, they aren't getting enough nutrients from then water when nitrates are zero. They are starving.

What changes did you make? I have a couple frags that have seemed to be in stasis for months... no growth but no loss while others have spread like crazy. Open to anything that might help them.
