Will wrasses attack hermits?

I’m thinking of adding 25 scarlets to clean up my 125 but right now I have a yellow choris and hoevens wrasse. Will they attack the crabs?

I don’t believe they will. I have a Vroliks wrasse that would hit them as they were added into the tank but once they were on the sand, he never payed them any attention again. The hoevens may take out shrimp though if you have any.

Make sure you put them in the tank after the wrasse goes to sleep. I tried while mine was awake and 4/5 got eaten. Mine will bother one here or there but nothing that I'm too concerned with. I just now always add inverts at night.

I keep them in a breeder box hung in the tank untill then after acclimation. Good way to make your wrasse go crazy trying to get into the clear box.

None of my wrasse ever bothered my clean up crew. But I also only bought "reef safe"

Hoeven's will go after the hermits given the chance. Most halocheries wrasses will. My dusky is a hermit destroyer.

I don’t really like crabs so I never had many, but my yellow coris would kill any small invertebrates. I like nass snails & I couldn’t keep them with the coris wrasse. It didn’t mess with any medium sized or large snails, only the small ones.

The melanurus (aka Hoeven's) will periodically eat hermit crabs (I can't speak for the coris). You will have a better chance of having the hermit crabs make it if you add them at night after the wrasse has gone to bed and give them a chance to get familiar with the tank and find decent places to hide.

my yellow choris wrasse never has and he is big now but he's been in the tank for many years and has been around hermit crabs since he was small.... I can drop small hermits right in front of him and he doesn't recognize them as food
