Hello all. I have been real busy lately between work, other responsibilities and my tank, so I haven't had time to stop by here for a bit. I can only log on using my one work computer, my ones at home aren't staying logged on to the website so I cant log in and do anything.
I received my second shipment a week or two. I had considerably more sponge die off this time and ended up with a few bad hitchhikers. It took the box a day in half to get to me and things were pretty cold when I got them. I drip acclimated all my inverts and hoped for the best and looks like everything made it. Originally I was supposed to receive the shipment 3 days earlier but tbs called and said they would have to move it to Thursday. Fine I said. Thursday came and I didn't receive an email from them or a call from the southwest airlines, so at about 6 that night I thought what the hell is going on and called tbs and emailed them asking if it was coming or if they wanted to reschedule(since Id never received any shipping confirmation). I didn't get an email until the next morning saying that they did ship it, they just didn't send me the tracking number. So I had to use a personal day at work(without pay) and go pick up my boxes of critters which I though would all be dead since they were so cold. My cycle was a little more severe this time. Instead of topping out at .25 ammonia it hit .5+ this time. A lot of my tube worms died off but seem to be returning. I had some sponges that where covered in white stuff and had to be removed. I found a few fish lice so far, but havent seen any for about a week. Hoping that they are gone for good. Will they eat things other then fish? I found one attached to my cucumbers and promptly squished him. I have a few crabs that are wreaking havoc on my tube corals but they are too small to catch. I also found this pruple spotted rock crab looking thing but I havent been able to catch him. If he wasnt destructive he would be sweet. Batteling some hair algae and cyano atm so I dont feel like taking pictures, they are kind of ugly. As usual, TBS totally out ddi themselves. They included all sorts of free critters and through in some extra sand. The second shipment was full of cup corals! I had a hard time fitting everything into the tank so it would receive porper flow. Some of the cups corals have orange and bright green "mouth" parts. They are very neat. I also have some encrusting corals but they are limited to one rock. I got one black cucumber and a smaller one that was yellow with black "spikes". Ive found atleast 4 porcelain crabs. The decorator crabs are on my kill on site list. Ive found them eating coral and attacking my snails. There also a lone green legged hermit crab. My condy has been pretty tempermental. Every day he seems to look different in terms of size and tentacle size and color. Well Ill try to snap some pics so youll have something to look at. Take it easy guys. |

Are these little white organisms all over my glass pods? And if so where did they come from? They are little specs--but they swiggle along. Ya need a magnifying glass...

Hey Now all!
Everything went so smoothly! Everything is in the tank now. I took pictures of the process which I will post asap. I couldn't believe all the critters...mustve pulled out 5 beautiful purple brittlestars the size of my palm. spaghetti worms...mini brittle stars...amazing! I once paid 100 dollars at ipsf.com to get basically the same critters that were in this sand. Just awesome! take care, Jared

Hey guys,
Here are two quick shots of the first box of rocks and the second. Can you guys help me out and let me know if you think it is keys or gulf? I just e-mailed Richard about it. I guess I could have had a preference but it doesn't matter to me. Here you go! take care, Jared

no ammonia yet rocks are bit more covered in algae than I would like...sure wish I could throw a tang and blenny in there now. hearing a few clicks but the most I get is two clicks at a time then it stops. everything seems very healthy! u guys think I should leave the caulerpa or pull it out? take care, Jared

Jared I'm almost certain this is Gulf rock due to amount of cup corals. My Keys rock didn't have any. From what I have read TBS is currently Harvesting from Gulf now. Sounds like you have a pistol shrimp which is great. I love the hitchhiker pistols I got and they continue to do great-got my TBS rock last August. Your pics are great keep them coming! I know you are enjoying setting up this tank. Lots of potential and great fun!

Hey Now Carlab,
Thanks for the reply! Yeah...you are correct...this is gulf rock! Richard got back to me and told me the keys site was destroyed by Wilma. Yeah tons of cup corals and today many of them have been opening. This rock is so much fun. I can't wait to get my part two! ammonia is now inbetween .25 and .50 almost 24 hours in the tank. My deltec mce600 is doing a primo job at keeping this water quality decent I believe...not to mention the packing job and methods Richard employs to get this stuff to us asap. I have decided to keep the caulerpa in for now as I would much rather have that be competing with the hair algae for nutrients than all hair algae. Plus it does look beautiful... take care, Jared

Pat and Bob are here in the Tampa area. They just went to check into their hotel and will be back later. Pat has taken a ton of pictures of our tank and we will post some of the best ones once we get them downloaded. It's so nice to finally meet someone from here on RC!!!
