3 Ritteri in 470g tank, run carbon?

Just curious if folks with multiple anemones and corals run carbon or not.

A punch in the face is me telling you that I miscounted. I actually have 8.

I only run carbon for short spells if or when I ever do, mainly to deal w/ mishaps, something fouled my water, or occasionally to polish water.

This could snowball in debate here, but some of my reading shows continuous use of carbon can be problematic, some studys suggest it can cause HLLE disease, and I'm not an expert in this area, but I figure why risk that chance when I just don't feel carbon to really be necessary.

If I had multiple nem species that bumped heads and looked agitated I may run it, or god forbid a nem went into a pump and fouled my water I'd run it, or something of that nature.

Same species nems in that size tank, no concerns at all.

I don't see any need to do it. I change 50 gal every few weeks (~500 gal total system). My anemones doing fine. So are the corals. I had a media reactor I got from BRS but took it offline after a while. Initially I use it for phosphate binder and carbon but eventually took it offline.

What are your feelings on Kalkwasser? One of my mags started looking poor or at least not himself and I couldn't figure it out but then remembered that I had started running kalkwasser in my ATO again. I dumped it, cleaned the container and put regular water in and he's back to himself again. Anyone have any similar issues with kalk?

Kalk does not cause problem, however they are sensitive to pH change.
In the past at one time, I used Kalk reactor but not with a continues feed pump. Rather I have a pump which pump at a fix rate. I have a timer that pump the kalk in. I adjust the amount by increase or decrease the duration it pump, 4 times a day.

Anyway, the timer mal function and stuck on ON for about 4 hrs by the time I detected it result in a mild to moderate Kalk overdose. I did not check pH of the tank (this is one value that I don't follow). I only have SPS, LPS, Xenia and Magnifica, and clams in tank at the time. The species that cause me to look around and see what was wrong is the Magnifica. He just does not look right. Everything else looks fine. Everybody recover well without further problem after I fix this issue.

I learn not to depend too much on timer after this, especially the China made mechanical ones from Home Depo. It can kill your tank. Another time, the timer control the MH light stick on over the weekend at my office tank and bleach all my corals and sicken my fishes. It was much harder for me to find this problem out since it was my office tank which I don't see at night. Same problem, bad timer. I do away with all of these other than occasional use in treatment tank these days.

I guess with running it through ATO it's not as calculated. Need to just stick with a good water change regimen I guess. I've heard too many tank crash stories with most any kind of dosing, especially kalk overdoses.
