Okay, this one's a long shot... :D

Anyone feeding fish eggs to their fish? We have several small anthias that only eat small foods, and I'm just trying to mix up their diet a bit. They like live mysis, cyclops, capelin eggs, and very finely chopped clam.

I'd like to find a source for unseasoned flying fish roe (tobiko) locally, but most phone conversations about whether the roe is seasoned or unseasoned leave 1) a very confused store owner and 2) a very frustrated me. Any help?

I have fed fish eggs only when we have leftover from making sushi at home. I believe you can get them at any asian store in a package. I dont have anthias, but all my other fishes have enjoyed them more so than the flakes and pellets (dry food).

I dont know if it's seasoned or not, but the roe used for sushi is what i have fed.

Hope this helps.

Where do you get the roe you used for sushi, moonman?

Since you're in SJ,

any Korean market on El Camino or Japanese market will do.

Just to be clear, I've been using masago (smelt eggs) and not tobiko (flying fish eggs). Masago is smaller and sometimes used on California rolls.

Hope this helps.

My kids like to put their hands over their ears when they eat the Tobiko (or maybe it's masago). It's really loud when you do that... sorry, little ot there.
