Anyone on here have a any reef related tattoos?
Or if you were gonna get something to represent your love for the hobby what would it be?

That is some artwork Ian.
But Sam if you had a zoa tat you could say,"This baby almost took my life once. It's got the deadliest poison in the whole ocean." LOL
I think I would do a giant eel wrapped around my body.

I have some dart frog tatoos, no fish, but a friend of mine who dives has a spotted drum juv tatoo on his shoulder. Before I actually saw the tatoo, I thought it was sort of a feminine tatoo, but after seeing it I wouldn't hesitate to have one like it.

I'm talking when people are old like 60-80.
I had to do a report on it back in HS; and interviewed people of all ages..
The old folks home is where I got all the regrets from ;)

When you are 40-60 the art is blown out by the beer belly and 70-80 it deflates, the loose skin makes "mother" look like a sea hag.
Still some people love their body art... and that is what makes the word go round.

Hey Steve, when you were doin' that report the old timers were trying to steer you. They secretly had a tat off right when you left.

I bought my mom a tattoo for her 65 birthday. it was her first and only. she got a tattoo of a frog climbing up her calf. she's 72 now and she still loves it.

Man, I'm not attacking them...
Just saying many people later regret them, and prolly more regret them than still want them...
I don't care if people get them, I'm just not a fan that's all.
If you have them and love them great!
If you don't have them and want them great!

That was a continuation of the Barb Wire that layed the original foundation.
But seriously Steve, your going to find that sentiment is going to change as the Gen X'ers and beyond age.
Tatoos used to be only for the Naval types and "fringe" elements.
Today, your childs English teacher makes conceals daily the "moon and stars" she got tatooed on the back of her neck while on Spring Break at Lake Havasu in 1995 , by never wearing her hair up......
I think it won't even be an issue, and not given a second glance.
But I think the Yakuza tats are pretty hardcore

I think your right on the generation thing. In my high school days no one had body art. Now high schoolers are getting them like crazy and it is such an in thing, that no one even thinks of it.

You both nailed my point exactly.
It's an in thing, right NOW..
My guess would be that since IN seems to fade after 20-30 years, many who are 20ish will regret them in 50-60 years...
I could be way off, but that's my guess...
There will probably be a fair amount I would assume. Personally I can't understand the impulsive nature and try to only do it on a concealable area, something that has meant a lot to you and that personal value, and is original.......then one should be alright.
I remember it took me a year to find the right flames. And just like I would tape them out on a fender......there are cool flames and not so cool.....
So Jordan......even though getting this tat of Ariel means a lot to you as she was your first love........you might think about getting this on the side of your neck like you were talking about.......

I got my first tatoo when I was 25, I had wanted one since I was 18 and figured if I wanted one for that long why not. Not only do I not regret it but I would get more if I could. My kidney failier has such a high risk of hepititus becuse of my imunosupressent durgs that it just isn't worth the risk. My tatoos are all hidden when clothed because of my business so almost no one knows I even have them, and most of my girlfriends that are long term (including my ex wife who I was married to for 16 years) have tatoos.

I have a few and the biggest regret I have is not getting better ones. I was young and had no money so now I regret the quality of the ones I have. If I could do it over I would have none. Besides its more hard core to resist and not get them. Its not just the tough guys with them anymore.

I got my first one when i was 16 it was a b-day present from my dad,now 6 tats later with the last being a 1/2 sleeve i got last year i dont regret any of them.I do have to cover them up at work but love to show them off when ever i can they all have meaning to me and are special in there own ways, the next i get will be a 1/2 sleeve of a reef just not sure what i want in it yet it will look like you start at the sand and progress to a reef. if my arm is big enough to make it look right.

I think I had a little pee in my pants after that comment Barb!
I think Steve is right. He's not trying cut on those with tattoos, just expressing his observation. but I think that statistics and time will prove Steve right. I personally have the Eye of Rah tattoo'd on the center of my shoulders and I've been trying to figure out what to get for my next one. I think Mache62 has inspired me to do a simple reef tattoo. I can tell you one thing, my friend will regret this tattoo.

Ha. Good one...
Anyone else notice the trend of people getting lips tattooed on their neck. Unfortunately I think most will look like a creeper when they're old.
It be neat to get a coral tattooed that was named after you in the hobby.
So I think that it should be a new tradition for the M.A.R.S president to get the club initials tattooed on their arm...haha
Unfortunately some sea critters might be taken the wrong way

Reef scenes, they look great but ouch!!!
MARS on the arm, hmmm, don't think so Jordan.
My wife has some nice tatoos. My daughter is covered with them.
A tatoo is forever. What has always been true about me and always will be? Actually, aquariums do come close.

Not forever! - haven't you heard of Turlington's Tatoo Removal?
Google: SNL-Turlington Tattoo Removal
Ha ha!
As for me, my 8 years, 6 months, and 7 days in the Navy was enough of a long-term commitment that I later regretted. And I made it through without any tattoos! Yeah - Forever: body changes and not knowing what I'll be doing/ where I'll be in the future are enough for me to easily say no, thank you. And also just my perspective, I don't see any need to do anything else to the body I was given. Clothes, jewlery, etc are more than enough for me.
I laugh and see the huge numbers of tat's going out now-a-days as a way to be different - just like everyone else. HA HA.
But seriously - do whatever it is that makes you happy!!! That's really what is important. Who am I to stop you?
