Ok, I know absolutely nothing about PH meters, but I was wondering what you guys thought about this?

I was just looking for PH probes and thought this would be a nice cheap alternative to the $50+ meters I was finding for use in aquariums. Of course I am not planning on continuously monitoring with one of these things, would just test once a day/week etc.

I think that's a Soil pH Meter for testing dirt ing your garden. I've used Pinpoint produsts in the past (pH Controler for my Ca reactor), but the Monitor is about $89. Milwakee makes an inexpensive model, but I've heard mixed reviews. I'm currently working on a vendor for the WMC who's in the beta testing phase on their pH monitors and controlers and it sounds like they'll be selling them pretty cheap if you're patient, maybe cheaper than the little handheld Hannah pen meters.

haha of course it is a soil PH monitor... that is why it is cheap :) As people have pointed out in the past, any time you slap a "marine" or "aquarium" label on anything the price at least doubles. I was wondering if this was a similar situation where I could get away cheap... hopefully your vendor will come through with some good prices - at least I can save a few bucks
Thanks,
Jason

I think I'm finally ready to bite the bullet and buy a ph meter. I'm registering consistently high ph values and am wondering if it's the cheap test kit I'm using. I remember a thread with Minh having problems with his Pinpoint, but don't really know too much about the various brands other than what Rich says above. Anybody else got any recommendations? Is EBay the way to go, or do members have any experience with other vendors? Budget is a concern (doh!).

When I did research before buying mine Pinpoint came out on top. I've had mine for 5 years now. I did have a problem with it, but with excellent customer service it was solved easily. (Some water somehow got inside my unit and caused some corrosion.)
