Using a syringe would be very tough because you would have to refill during a glue up. I Think that wiould be a mistake. Should have ordered it when you ordered the glue!!
Your right I wouldn't recommend using a turkey syringe ,had an applicator but it got clogged too impatient to wait for another one but it worked fine you just had too be quick water tested it same day no problems wouldn't t recommend that either but I was working in 95+ temps

jaeden 08/21/2006 08:22 PM

does this mean I win a prize

ANOTHER SPLIT!!!!

jnarowe 08/21/2006 09:08 PM

Sweet coral.

jaeden: When the applicator clogs, you can heat it with a lighter and it will unclog. And that's your tip for the day! :D

arconom 08/21/2006 09:09 PM

Marc, you are the SPLIT master!!

melev 08/21/2006 11:49 PM

And yes, that is totally Tip for the Day, Jonathan. (Unclogging a needle tip applicator)

TippyToeX 08/21/2006 11:52 PM

A spilt while you have been overhauling your site too! Love the changes BTW.

Do you have any problems with the SPS browning when you use Chemi-Clean ?
My tank getting some cyno about three hours after my light come on and goes away after three more i have the MH on for 8 hours.
I did use the CC before but it brown all of my SPS and kill one clam.
Do you have any advice how to use this product .
And if you think will be safe to use it.
Thanks.

melev 08/22/2006 08:46 AM

I do think it is safe to use, and I use it often enough that the cyano in my system must be immune at this point.

About two weeks ago, I put in enough Chemi Clean to treat 600g of water (two packages worth), and left the skimmer off for 48 hours. After that, I changed 55g of water, and turned on the skimmer.

I do buffer the alkalinity/pH 10 minutes before dosing, because it will drop when you dose. When I was ready, I checked pH and it was 8.2 and ORP was 379. I added some baked baking sode mixed in RO water, and 10 minutes later, added the Chemi Clean. ORP dropped to 81 in 90 seconds. The BTAs looked upset, but the rest of the reef was unaffected, including the Maxima. The mfg recommends adding an airstone to the tank when dosing, but I have a huge sump and lots of flow (rippling surface) so I believe my system has oxygen covered.

A lot of the cyano bacteria died back. I think I should have just dosed for 300g, and then after 48 hours added another dose instead to hurt the already weakened plague. That stuff is annoying, to be sure.

However, I've never had any losses nor had SPS turn colors after using it.

Enderrea 08/22/2006 09:19 AM

funny thing did't think about that. i did order the applicator bottle.
still have not gotten the order................ i think i need to call them it is now been a week......... i am impient ! it's all Marc and Jonnathen fault!!!!

jnarowe 08/22/2006 09:30 AM

Enderrea: You should have gotten it within 2 days.

Growth Sequence

Yesterday while working on my site, I came across this old picture from two years ago.

This is three days after the blue A. millepora was put in the 280g reef. It is located right above the Flame Angel and was maybe 5" wide, basing that on the size of the T. maxima clam below it.
August 5, 2004.

Here it is, twenty-two months later. Same spot, just much bigger, to the left of the white feeding clip. Its baby is to the left of the main colony, located between the two Tunze Streams.

At twenty-three months, I had that rockslide, and had to rearrange the corals. Here's the underside of the parent colony. Note the Astrea snail for a sense of scale.

In their new position, taken under actinics.

This is a macro shot taken from above; the parent colony with its baby beneath.

I guess you could say I definitely got my money's worth with this coral.

stereomandan 08/22/2006 10:04 AM

Hey Marc, the tank is looking great. I've been out for a long, long while... building our house for the last year... I can't believe your post count!!!

Keep up the good work.

My tank is up and running although the upkeep has been dismal for the last year. Everything is still alive, but I need to do some major pruning and maintenance. Your thread here has inspired me to get back at it.

Later,
Dan

jnarowe 08/22/2006 10:04 AM

sweet. nice growth!

melev 08/22/2006 10:18 AM

Dan, I've not seen you in forever! It's been so long, I think it's time for the obligatory

To Reef Central

:D Glad to know I'm helping you get back on the horse, so to speak. Looking forward to reading about your tank again. Be sure to link me to your thread.

A couple of nights ago, the Tiger Cowrie was on the glass. That is rather unusual, so I grabbed my camera and tried to get some decent pictures in low lighting.

http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/06/08/cowrie1.jpg

For this picture, I turned on the lights in the room to provide some back-lighting.
http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/06/08/cowrie2.jpg

Finally I turned on the flash.

It is about the size of a lemon. I like him. :)
