Melev has them 16" away. I am runnning 250's and keep them 14" away. The temp in the room is 73. I am able to keep the temp within .5 degrees running my halides for 7 hours straight using a $13 fan.
The new ballasts have not come in yet so I have not determined if I will be able to control the temp running 400's.
