Talking Looking to Upgrade!

So I currently have a Fluval Spec V (5 gal) tank and 3 gal sump I made, that I have had up for a while now. I am looking to upgrade to a 20 gal. I have a few concerns.

1.) What is cycling like when you upgrade?

2.) Will transferring my sand be ok since I have to add more?

3.) How long before I put my critters into the tank?

Thanks for the help in advance! and any other advice would be appreciated.

Use new sand or thoroughly wash the old in ro water. Since you would be moving your live rock into the new tank there really is nothing to cycle. As long as you are not adding any new fish or corals right away it should be a simple process.

Just make up new salt water to match your current tanks parameters including the temperature. Add sand and fill it up get the pumps going. When the water clears move your rock and fish.

Off topic but how did you run your sump from the spec V. I have one I was thinking about using for a nano.

I had a spare 3 gal tank. I used two 2L bottles and a 20 oz with a spare pump and 1"pvc pipe. Pictures are easier to see what I mean.
