My 10 year old anemone

Well, I've had this anemone for about 10 years now, through 3 different moves and at least 4 different tanks. It has split a few times now, but this is still the mother of them all. Not looking too shabby, even after all this time.

Now at 15 years.

I'm reattaching the original image (thanks photobucket - interesting business model you have there, annoying the heck out of potential customers), and here's a new one from today.

For whatever reason we've lost a lot of the bubble-tipped nature (probably due to the flow in the new tank), but still going strong with 5 clones.

Oh, and I moved again, so I managed to successfully keep all 5 of the current clones alive through yet another move.

I should probably teach a class in reef tank move crisis management at this point.

Well, today has been a challenging day. It's 8 hours since the power went out, and it's just below freezing. There is no eta from the power company. 15 years of having a plan and a backup plan comes in handy sometimes. Primary generator is running and backup generator is ready. I had to turn the fireplaces down because it was getting a bit warm. Beer is being drunken, and I am going to watch Netflix for a bit, now that I have the cable modem running.

Secondary 150 gallon quarantine system is also running fine.

Disaster planning needs to be part of keeping tanks long term. Just saying.

What are we at now? I think it might be 18 years. My beard is definitely a little grey. I still have the mighty greens, and I also added some really nice pink tipped rbtas that just went nuts. I went ultra low maintenance a while ago with a lot of dosing pumps and a trident and I currently have some anemones. I can’t really count that high - let’s say 3 feet (maybe 25), and I try to keep them to half the tank. 20 years is coming up... someone had better buy me a beer at some point.

I can attest to this. I even had a back up generator and when I went to use it, it started but didn't generate any power.
Lost all my BTA's and clown fish all very old.
Now I run and test my back up generator every 6 months.

Nice BTA! Any clowns?

it is really cool to se how long living these animals could be and how different same animal looks in different environment. It would not surprise me to hear it would live 50-60 years or longer. It seems to me Dave that we are the ones who are aging, not the nems, LOL

I believe anemones can live to 100+ in the wild.

there is a guy in Wien, Austria, living legend. Karl Guba is his name.

back in 2011. he announced 50th birthsday of his tube anemone. And that is in captivity alone, god knows how odl was it when they captured it.

So with his father he extracted it from Adriatic Sea back in 1961. and it still lives. how about that ?!
