Help on finding a small cheap skimmer.
Hi all,I am chasing knowledge on small skimmers.
I haven’t used a skimmer in over 18 years and those were my own home made venturi style skimmers, before that, wood stone types. So as you can imagine I don’t have much of an idea of the types that are around and how well they function. I am looking for one that pulls out a reasonable amount of crap, nothing fantastic. It has to be small and cheap but not too nasty? It has to sit in the sump waters. It has to fit into a space of 140 by 100 mill by 650 mill high. It has to have power head and skimmer combined, all in one! I have looked a deltec for $299 and that’s far to much and one called an actual skimmer at $97 What can any one suggest for this filtration I am building to incorporate a skimmer to not work that hard. Thank you in advance. |

That’s not an issue for what I want, its just for extra back up, the system accounts for everything, the complete nitrite cycle and all nutrients.
Just some help on a cheap skimmer for that size space that you guys would recommend. This is a refined under tank version of my NWMS to build for the others in our club so they can see how to build it. I finished cutting all the glass today and need to know the exact sized space for a suitable skimmer. Thanks guys. |

I just need one to fit in the space allowed that will remove some protein and not be something that will break down.
Just to clear it up,it will be running a 2 foot by 18 by 18 inch tank, quiet a small one! |

I think aquaticlife makes a in tank skimmer that is $50 and gets good ratings, it should fit in your sump, I don't translate millimeters to inches but I think it's around 3"x3" x10.5" high.

You can look at an SCA-301 (which is the SC-65), sold through ebay. I think the sellers name is theljnet. There are a couple of threads on the boards talking about the SC skimmers (SC-65/SC-150).

The Bubble Magus 3 or 3.5+ is small but did really well for me as an in-sump skimmer. I've seen them on ebay for cheap too, less than $100 for sure. HTH

Not sure what is available here in the US is available down under, but my recommendation would be the SC 65 or SCA 302 small and cheap.
